  • over eye - small spines, no cirrus

CROCODILICHTHYS

TRIPLEFINS

Body long, slender; top of head smooth, except for a few weak spines along top of eye; no cirrus over eye, but extremely small papillae present; no teeth on sides of roof of mouth; 3 dorsal fins; many fin rays - 2nd dorsal fin XVI-XIX spines, anal fin I-II, 25-26; pelvic fin rays separated; lateral line straight, in 2 sections, front part with pored scales, rear part with notched scales; scales small, 41-48 lateral rows.

The single species in this genus is endemic to the tropical eastern Pacific.
